Treatment & Surgery

Treatment

Treatment will depend on your child’s symptoms, age and overall health. It will also depend on how severe the condition is.

  • Observation and repeated exams. Your child will need regular visits to check on the curve of his or her spine. Curving of the spine often slows down or stops after a child reaches puberty.
  • Bracing. If your child is still growing, he or she may need a brace for some time.

Surgery

Your child may need surgery when the curve measures 45 degrees. Aim is to correct the curvature, improve posture and reduce progression of respiratory dysfunction caused by Scoliosis. Sometimes Cardio-respiratory dysfunction may exist as a result of progressive scoliosis or be related to coexisting disease.

Recovery

  • A full recovery may take upto a year.
  • Regular check up are going to be important
  • Exercise as suggested

While discomfort and stiffness are normal parts of the recovery process, if there is an increased pain it is a sign that you need to slow down and take it easy.
