Treatment - What to expect?
Non-Surgical Treatments:
Nonsurgical treatment include observation, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Tumors that are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic which do not appear to be changing or progressing may be observed and monitored with regular MRIs.
Surgery
Indications for surgery vary depending on the type of tumor. If surgery is considered, the approach to the tumor is determined by the tumour’s location within the spinal canal.
Chemotherapy: A standard treatment for many types of cancer, chemotherapy uses medications to destroy cancer cells or stop them from growing.
Radiation therapy: This may be used to eliminate the remnants of tumours that remain after surgery.
Laparoscopic surgery: Invasive surgery is an option when the tumor doesnt respond to other treatments. This helps in preserving neurological functions and provides stability. Vertebroplasty & kyphoplasty can be performed to provide better stability to the spine.
